Scenes from the City

So we thought it would be nice to share some photos we took just walking through the City. Long Street is the happening street with many bars, restaurants, shops and tourists from around the world. A couple of cool hotels to check out, Daddy Long Legs, Hippo and The Metropol. Things are sooo stylish here! All of the vibrant colors are from Bo Kaap a predominately Muslim neighborhood between the city center and de Waterkant. This is such an easy city to walk around in with non stop excitement!

Woodstock

Woodstock is an up and coming neighborhood that is VERY diverse. The Old Biscuit Mill is this really cool mixed use development with shops, a market, and some offices. The main street is surrounded by small little cottages. This would be a great place to invest so i thought i would pass it along for those of you who are considering a move to Cape Town after viewing our blog over the past month or so. The City is still working towards 2010 but there are still many people expressing skepticism that it can be pulled off. Some of you may remember that S.Africa was pulled from all world sports, including the world cup, during apartheid. So it is really an amazing opportunity and one that will help S. Africa along its path towards equality and economic prosperity for all people.

Helderberg Hike

So we are getting some fitness in thanks to Elbe, Jan and Susie. We got up and starting hiking at 6am (yes, Kelley got up at 6am - it's a miracle!). We ran into some baboons along the way and Kelley almost turned around because of the horrid noises they were making. Alas, Jan chased them away and Elbe and Susie led the way just in case they changed their minds. We made it up to the top in about 3 hours, ate lunch and then started back down. Overall it was about a 6 hour adventure. Boy were our dogs barkin when we got to the bottom. And a few days later our legs were rubber. But we experienced amazing views of Cape Town, Table Mountain and the winelands!
